Block done and post ready - all in the correct month this time!

Here's my July block for Claire E Poppins:

It was featured in issue 6 of Love Patchwork and Quilting.  It includes corner blocks involving sewing triangles to square pieces to create a square within a square.

After a LOT of head scratching as to how to ensure all my points matched up to create perfect squares within squares, I finally realised that it was easier if I ironed them in half to ascertain the halfway point of both the triangles and the square.

This probably isn't news to most of you, but I was mighty please with myself when I stumbled across that solution!

Now received!  Enjoy what is shaping up to be a gorgeous quilt Ms. Poppins.

For my June trick, I present....

Heidee's friendship star block.

There's a great tutorial for how to make this lovely block here.

I am not going to lie, I was horrified at the thought of cutting anything to 7/8 of an inch, but therein lies the learning, which is what this bee is all about.

Now onto Claire's July block.

Sister's Choice - DONE!

Finally...

I have finished the quilt for my sister.

It can't make up its mind whether it is raining or sunshine today, so the photoshoot location is the most un-glamorous stair in the world, which just so happens to be flooded with light.

This quilt measures about 54" x 54".

I am so HAPPY this quilt is finished.  I started it back in January and was supposed to finish it in March for the Pantone Quilt Challenge.  Oh well, best laid plans and all that!

Sister's Choice - In a Bind

This is a bit of an experiment post, as I am using my new snazzy phone which can handle such things.

My old one was so rubbish the sound didn't work, so I had a phone which didn't ring!

I digress. I'm just here to show you the binding of my Sister's Choice quilt is now on ready be hand stitched.

Almost there.

I'm a hexa-gonner!

"Oh this?  This is a free gift from a magazine - so useful, I use it all the time."

Said noone, ever.

Until now that is.  I've received the last few issues of Love Patchwork and Quilting, but have not yet succumbed to using the free gifts which have accompanied it.

However, I have spent two weekends locked up in a caravan with no electricity, running water or wifi, so teaching myself to English Paper Piece using the instructions in a magazine (what, no YouTube?  How does anyone learn anything without YouTube?) seemed like a great idea.

Here's my first few attempts at basted hexagons:

Before getting brave, and making this:

 The hexagon theme of the holiday continued with a little of this:

I am going to turn this (oh shameful scrap pile) into a quilt of 1 inch hexagons made up of fabrics I've included in all my quilts and sewing projects.

So, now I'm totally addicted to making these you can all look forward to seeing these beauties in every WIP Wednesday for the next fifty years!

PS. I also had the time to sort the scrap pile.  It is really embarrassing to admit, but it was really satisfying.  The categories are a little like Monica's towel collection.
